EXPO Milan – 2015

Austria has a Pavilion at this event entitled “Forest for the Senses” (“Wald für die Sinne”). The Austrian pavilion attracts many visitors and has received an award. However, what is more important to me is the production of oxygen, the details of which can be read on the website:

THE AUSTRIAN PAVILION PRODUCES OXYGEN

FOR 1 800 PEOPLE PER HOUR

TIP: If so much oxygen can be produced on an area of 2000m2, how much more could be produced with tree plantations to improve the quality of life for humanity?

100 Million Hectares of New Forest in Africa

I was delighted by this announcement in the ORF Teletext on 7 December 2015!

Several African States and supporters are attempting to slow down climate change by re-foresting a huge area. The project aims at creating a hundred million hectares of forest by 2030. The plantation would absorb environmentally damaging carbon dioxide from the air and give many poor people employment. The project is to be funded by the World Bank and the private sector.

My wish:
My gratitude to the organizers, as well as strength and endurance!
Project implementation and not just wishful thinking!
Positive example for re-forestation efforts in other regions of the world!

On-set of Winter before Easter

This year again the saying: “Green Christmas – White Easter” was proved right. A thick blanket of wet snow on the garden surprised us in the early morning which we would have preferred to have seen at Christmas!

In the afternoon, my sister and I took a walk through the snowy woods. She cleared the way and took photos while I struggled in the deep snow. We were both enchanted by the calmness and quietness, the magnificent forest and the many deer which we encountered.

In the middle of the path on a large expanse of snow, we saw a splendid specimen of a worm!

Even the cleared circular path appeared less dreadful under the thick blanket of snow.

My concern was: This year, we could at least enjoy two days of this winter wonderland; in view of climate change, will our children and the next generation be able to experience a “winter” season?
